Hi all, I have an idea for a freelance web development service that would offer you as developers the chance to get paid for coding relatively high quality but VERY small scale modules that would fit into a larger framework (must be MVC like fuelphp, symfony, laravel, yii etc.).
If you've ever seen freelancers get paid loads for simple crud sites and thought that you could do that yourself easy then this is for you! you will not have to deal with any stupid customers who don't know what they want.
For example you could get paid to code one of the following three modules for a project:
1. You get paid $100: for a basic CRUD module for a table of restaurants with details like their name, description, and their geographic lat/lng coordinates. You would then have to integrate a google map instance which would plot each restaurant on the map with a marker and allow you to click on the marker to view that restaurant's page in detail. If you have ANY experience integrating google maps and using a scaffold command on ANY framework then this will take you no time at all (i know that as a developer myself).
2. $50: for a basic CRUD module of reviews. Would have to include things like validation.
3. $50: CRUD module for users. (Create - would really be a register page)
4. $100: Authentication system which would be built on top of the last CRUD users module.
In each instance you would be provided with fairly detailed requirements of the system, i.e. what "helper" methods are to be included, we would also have the template ready made for you so you can simply plug in the php snippets to the html code.
This is EASY work for any moderately experienced web developer but you can make a good $100 with only a few hours work.
As a general rule the money would be deposited into an escrow account before you even begin coding. As a developer, you can't loose. You will not have any contact with the end customer for whom the project is being developed but instead you would interact with an experienced project manager (one with experience in web development, no MBA types!). Thus you don't have to go through the pain of requirements gathering, client interviews, price negotiations etc.
If you know how to develop object oriented mvc code and have an hour or two to spare, why not make a quick buck out of it?
So, what I want to know is, how likely would you as a developer be to use a service like this?
